Announce - 5th February

 Ian writes

We were wrapping up for the day, when with heads full of ideas, Matt remarked this was all a waste of time, or words to that effect,  unless we are committed to the Pursuit of God.  You can always rely on Matt to keep you on track!

Matt and Katie, Robert and myself, had been on an away day to reflect and discern what God is leading us to. And whatever else we felt was important from that day, the Pursuit of God put everything into context.

The phrase itself requires a bit of unpacking .We say “the Lord is here” in our worship and yet we have to pursue  him as if He has got away! We say God’s Spirit fills us and yet pursuit seems to suggest we have to put in a lot of time, energy, and effort to reach him. We love seekers to find Jesus as the One who meets all our needs, and yet pursuit of God suggest that seeking goes on, and on, and on.

And here lies the beauty of being disciples. That Jesus is wonderfully known in such a way that leaves us wanting more. The pursuit is to know we are known by God and that He meets us when we our seek Him. To find out more look  at Tozer’s “The Pursuit of God” – e-versions are available.

For the time being, February springs with new possibilities and opportunities in Carrigrohane Union. On Tuesday 7th a few of us meet with the Diocesan Finance Committee about our proposals for a “Connect Centre” in Ballincollig. That is followed on the 15th February, when everyone in the Union is invited to Making Vision a Reality, as we share these proposals. They are exciting not just for outreach in Ballincollig but because of the shared values like the one at the heart of Vision 2015 “enabling people of all backgrounds to find their God given place as we create and celebrate our changing community.”

This month we need to hear that voice to keep us all on track – the Pursuit of God.

21ST FAITH – THE HAVEN

The Haven Project is a faith initiative.  It is not primarily the development of a good idea, or even a response to a need, but we believe it is a response to a particular call or word from God. The great excitement and value comes not from what we do or hope to achieve but from the experience of being included in God’s profound activity.  The Haven on Bachelors Quay in Cork provides a community space open to all where practical experience meets lived out faith.  The community that has developed around it encourages people who are undergoing major transitions and upheavals in their lives to walk the path to stability and purpose.  Through the medium of a coffee shop run by people on back to work and community employment schemes, toddler groups run by local parents, and music and creative events run by members of the community itself, we have seen lives transformed and confidence restored to many.  These ordinary situations mean it is a natural place for faith conversations as people live their lives, seeking some order in the place of challenge and disturbance.  The mix of people is diverse, the variety of peoples’ stories is enormous, but God’s grace is infinite and His love certain.
